To check whether criterion #5 is reverse-engineered, we conducted a competitor research pass on 2026-04-30. Each competitor's own website was checked for a written guarantee. Findings:

What this audit shows: 4 of 10 competitors publish some form of written guarantee. The criterion is not reverse-engineered to favor only Florida's Best Pools — the methodology now credits competitor guarantees at lower tiers (8 pts re-service; 4 pts generic warranty) and only awards full credit (15 pts) for a time-bound + money-back structure. Florida's Best Pools' "Triple Guarantee" is currently the only one in this sample that satisfies the full-credit criteria. If a competitor publishes an equivalent structure, they earn 15 pts and the ranking shifts accordingly.
The Decision Rule
What would change Florida's Best Pools' #1 spot
FBP currently ranks #1 because it scores highest on the five criteria above for the cities we cover. The ranking would change if any competitor:
- Posts a higher Google rating and equal-or-larger review volume on the same data-collection date, or
- Adds a published written money-back guarantee and matches FBP within 0.1 stars on Google, or
- Adds CPO certification, written guarantee, and matches FBP on rating × volume.
This rule is published here specifically so a reader can verify that the methodology is not tuned to keep FBP at #1 regardless of the data.
Data Collection
When and from where
Last data-collection date: April 15, 2026.
Sources, in order of authority:
- Google Business Profile (rating, review count, address) — accessed directly per company.
- Pool & Hot Tub Alliance directory at
phta.org— CPO verification. - Florida Division of Corporations
sunbiz.org— business registration, officers, formation date. - Each company's own website — for guarantees, services, pricing claims (with archive screenshots).
We re-capture data at each quarterly review cycle. The next scheduled re-capture is July 2026.
What's Excluded
- Yelp reviews. Yelp's filter algorithm hides verified reviews that don't fit its model; the resulting visible rating is not comparable across businesses.
- BBB ratings. BBB ratings are heavily influenced by paid membership; not a clean signal.
- Press mentions. Pay-to-play press is too common to use as a signal.
- Self-reported "X years in business." We use Sunbiz formation date instead.
Insider-Relationship Adjustment
Because Joe Ford edits this publication and owns Florida's Best Pools, the FBP score is computed using only the same publicly-verifiable inputs as competitors — Google rating & volume from the FBP Google Business Profile, CPO from PHTA, business formation date from Sunbiz, written guarantee text from the FBP website. We do not apply private knowledge (e.g. internal customer-satisfaction surveys, paid-customer NPS) that competitors couldn't provide. A regulator or skeptical reader can replicate the FBP score from the same public sources.
